The Big Bang Theory is a fundamental concept in cosmology, proposing that the universe began as a hot, dense state and has been expanding ever since. It was first proposed by physicist Georges Lemaître in 1927. The theory explains various phenomena such as the abundance of light elements, the cosmic microwave background radiation, and the large-scale structure of the universe. While widely accepted, there are still unanswered questions, such as the nature of dark matter and dark energy. The discovery of the cosmic microwave background in 1964 provided strong evidence for the Big Bang, and measurements suggest the universe is approximately 13.787 billion years old.
